Quick Thoughts on Pebble Coming Back

Back when I was in high school, I had a Pebble smartwatch for awhile. I LOVED that thing. I was planning on upgrading to the new one they released, but they'd gone under by the time I was ready to switch. Over the next few years, I switched between an Apple Watch, a FitBit, and then ditched smartwatches altogether. Now, I just wear Casio watches.

Well, Pebble's coming back! Well, not under the Pebble name exactly, but the previous owner is shipping the last Pebble that came out (with some minor tweaks). On one hand, I'm excited about this! The Pebble was such a fun little gadget that has held a soft spot in my heart since. Ever since they went under, I've yearned for a similar device in the smartwatch market.

On the other hand, I don't really want a smartwatch anymore. None of the features interest me; I like that my watches just tell the time. I don't want fitness tracking or notifications. Don't get me wrong, I love what they're doing! I love that they're building on top of the Pebble code Google made open source earlier this year and that everything is hackable. Again, it's what I've wanted in a smartwatch for a long time.

It's just... not for me anymore. Maybe I'll cave and change my mind, who knows. But, for now, I won't be getting one.
